The Tuvaluan Government is asking for more water tanks in its National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) in order to secure fresh water access for its citizens. « More water tanks, we need more water tanks », says many Tuvaluans when you ask them about their access to fresh water. But is this really what Tuvaluans need?

On Funafuti, the Tuvaluans experienced a fully-fledged top down approach on the Earth Hour when the government decided to shut down the power plant for 1 hour. On the outer islands, the power plant shuts down every night from midnight to 6 in the morning.

In the middle of the King Tides on Tuvalu

The water is not only washing over the coastline, but it is also seeping through small holes in the porous atoll ground. It is a bit less salty than ordinary sea water (so they say here) and it is quite polluted. The PH is around 4, while PH for sea water normally is around 8. Maybe it is the pigs houses that we can see in the background, maybe it is the pink toilets beside the meeeting house?
